Case Studies> > Windows LACP IM Driver

The Challenge
The challenge was to develop Link aggregation control protocol (IEEE 802.3 AD) support on Windows.

The Solution

The requirement needed the implementation of a Windows NDIS Intermediate driver for LACP protocol support. The driver would have a miniport upper edge to support the Virtual aggregator ports, and a protocol lower edge that would provide the binding to the lower miniport drivers Ethernet adapters. The protocol consists of the distributor and collector modules for transmission and reception and the LACP module for auto configuration. The user mode control is provided through a WDM interface. The protocol provides Load balancing and fault tolerance and linearly increasing bandwidth.

The software was developed in 4 months time on Windows 2000.

The Technology

The complexity of the project was in understanding the intricacies of the LACP protocol.

The Result

This project enabled GRACELABS to build on its technical resources in the areas of NDIS intermediate driver and LACP protocol.
